The Hypernauts and Kulai go to rescue the few people who were left behind to die on a planet being processed by a maker. The survivors who are left are enemies of Paiyin and are left under mind control to carry out the final work to destroy the planet. Sharkey has to confront his fear of closed places (brought on by a childhood accident that killed his parents). We learn that he spent time at the Caduceus Enclave recovering from the accident. He overcomes his fears and fights a devistator controlled by Paiyin to slow it down while the rest of the Hypernauts and Kulai fly the survivors to safety.
Sharkey manages to surf the shockwaves of the exploding planet in his mechsuit and join the others abord the Star Ranger.
